Effective Partnerships: How to Win together

Here's a thought to ponder, this quote is adapted from Mr. Gregory Napier. It represents my thoughts of why it's important to work together. When I was in grade school I learned about Kwanza and the teachings of the Nguzo Saba. I continue to be inspired by one of the seven principles of Nguzo Saba called Ujamaa:Cooperative Economics: to build and maintain our own stores, shops, and other businesses and to profit from them together.
Keeping that teaching in mind, consider the words of Gregory Napier:
"The world is primarily constituted on the basis of harmony. Everything works in cooperation with something else. Personal relationships are the fertile soil from which all advancement, all success, all achievement in real life grows. Put yourself in another's place. Only then will you know why they think and do certain things. Once you understand how quickly people will grant your requests when those requests appeal to their self interest, you can have practically anything you go after. It's through cooperation not conflict, that you'll achieve your greatest success."
After reading that quote, what are your thoughts? What steps can you take to make your partnerships more effective?
I have found that some of my biggest challenges and opportunities resonate from working and collaborating with others. I have heard other business owners express similar concerns with partnerships, collaborations, mergers etc. However, in this quote by Mr.Gregory Napier, I believe he provides a reference point of how these partnerships can work. I believe that knowning my agenda and how I can solve my partner's problem by adding value to thier vision and agenda has improved my ability to form alliances that are effective.
In addition, understanding and defining each role provides an opportunity so everyone can stay in their own lane, which allows the development of accountability and responsibility. When I know my role, I take ownership, and I take pride in my work. The idea is to allow your partners to do the same and have a stake in the outcomes and profits. You have two goals: 1. to eliminate the risk to your partners and to add value on all levels 2. to know your agenda and your partner's agenda to forge alliances that can be interwined. Think of your partnerships as if they are machines of production and your value is the oil. When these factors are present, the magic begins, and in the end everyone wins.
