What is leadership? According to most dictionaries leadership is an act or instance of leading; guidance; direction. Simply said leadership involves the ability to influence individuals to achieve their full potential. Great leaders impact their followers ability to accomplish feats they thought they could not achieve.
Great leaders are masters at influencing their other to get the best out of them. I have found that leaders constantly seek methods of personal development. They strive for excellence in everything they do.
I have discovered that great leaders are coachable, trainable, and they leave clues on how to be successful. They seek mentors to assist them in achieving their greatness potential. I learned that when I want to learn a new skill I must seek someone who has master it and ask them how and do exactly what they instruct.
I am on a mission to enhance my leadership abilities. Therefore, I am currently at a leadership convention.
In addition, I am constantly feed my entrepreneurial mindset with rich literature.
I am currently reading The 21 Irrefutable laws of Leadership by John C. Maxwell. Maxwell paints a clear blueprint on how to measure and develop leadership skills.
The twelveth Law, the Law of Empowerment, Maxwell explains how only secure leaders give power to others. This law resonates with me and fuels the foundation of my leadership development journey.
As I embrace my self worth and confirm my level of confidence in my leadership ability, I will ultimately achieve a new level of leadership.
I will be able to find leaders whom I can empower without a fear of losing what I have. Losing what we have is the number one reason most leaders fail to empower their organization. Fear cripples you and a lack of confidence creates a weak leader. Leadership is about taking charge and taking risks. Leading well is not about just enriching yourself- it’s about encouraging and uplifting others to achieve their greatest potential. As I allow myself to be taught new leadership skills, I must take on the role of the student and allow myself to be mentored. I have observed leaders who have shown their disappoval of being corrected or who have become stubborn or complacent in their personal development, because they feel they have achieved a high level of success. I have found we have to continue to learn to lead.
Food for though: “The best executive is the one who has sense enough to pick good men to do what he wants done, and self restraint enough to keep from meddling with them while they do it.” –Theodore Roosevelt
I will ponder this quote and gain valuable insight this weekend at this awesome leadership convention. I will and I must lead individuals to achieve their dreams. I know helping others succeed ultimately I will succeed too.
It’s harvest time; remember to keep sowing seeds of empowerment to create a blessed harvest.
